A FINtastic Time!

My friend, Jillian Morris Brake came to speak to the fourth grade about her work with Sharks! Ms. Morris is a graduate of Marshwood High School and the University of New England.  She is a marine biologist who loves the ocean and has a special love of sharks!  During her talk she told us how important sharks are to the oceans of our world and how we can help!

After her presentation we played a fun game or predator and prey!  Students were Sharks or food, depending on which side of the room they started on. Such fun!

You can visit http://sharks-ocearch.verite.com/ to track some Great White Sharks that were tagged in Massachusetts this summer and visit Jillian's site here: http://www.shark-girl.com/.

Can you spot two of our classmates?

Week in Review Part 1: Mock Election and Veteran's Day

Time is flying by in room 31!  I have started this blog entry three times and haven't had the chance to finish it. We spent last week doing lots of fun things. On Tuesday we participated in a school wide mock election. It was a great addition to our mini-unit on our election process.
Here's Jack checking in to vote!

He's got his ballot!

Avery is working at the polls! Her job was to check of people as they came in to vote.

Voting!

Will placing his ballot in the "ballot box".

During our mock election we were able to vote for President, Senators and Representatives to House. Our results for our class were: Obama 13, Romney 7.  Dill 2, King 10, Summers 4. Courtney 8, Pingree 8.  The kids were excited to vote and were even more excited to find out that our mock election (Class and School Wide) correctly. As Great Works goes, so goes the Nation!

On Wednesday we celebrated Veteran's Day with an Assembly.

A panoramic view of the assembly. Look at all the Veterans!

While the Chorus sang, we skyped with a Dad who is stationed in Kuwait.

Lots of students read their essays, "Why Veterans are Heros?"

Members of the Navy, stationed on the USS Pasadena talk about their life on a submarine.

We all participated in the USS Pasadena cry!
"Anytime, anywhere!"
